Kids’ SUMMER Activities

By Jamil Khan

DURING the summer vacations throughout Pakistan, most of schoolchildren took off to visit Northern Areas or went abroad to see new and worth visited places. But there were many who were willing to use this time to learn new things in various fields. To cater to the needs of such children various schools and organizations conducted a variety of summer camps in their respective fields. In these camps different activities were held. Most of these camps concluded in the last week of July. Here is a brief review of a few summer camps of Karachi.

SOS Village Malir
The summer camp which was held in SOS Village was an interesting experience for those who participated in it as well as those who attend the concluding day’s performances.https://jamilkhan.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/summer-1.jpg
A large number of kids took part in various activities like flower making, glass painting, cooking, candle making, learning skills in carpentering, documentary making, and a long list of activities. Children also enjoyed playing matches of cricket and volleyball on different occasion while they also took pleasure in visiting some interesting places in the city like the museum, Mohatta Palace and other places as part of their summer camp. On the last day of the summer camp a musical evening and exhibition of SOS Village’s children’s handicrafts was also held. The guests admired the work of young children of the Village.

Sargam House
For the last fifteen years the Sargam House is conducting summer camps with a large number of various activities at its premises. https://jamilkhan.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/summer-2.jpgDozen of events are carried out both indoor and outdoor for boys and girls. With the help of trained teachers the kids who are eager to learn a lot take pleasure in various sports and skilful events, such as taekwondo, roller and board skating, English conversation and computers classes, oil painting, poster colours, sketching, ceramics, textile designing, block printing, fabric printing, silk printing and much more.

Cricket camp
Children love watching and playing cricket. They spend most of their free time playing cricket in the streets and a lot of them dream about following the footsteps of Imran Khan and Javed Miandad. If given the training and opportunities some might succeed in making a place in the national cricket team.https://jamilkhan.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/summer-31.jpg
With the aim to groom the skills required to play cricket from grass roots and primary level, a two-month long cricket camp was organized by Cricket Unlimited under the banner of Skill Development Programme 2005.
As many as 42 children in two groups – under-12 and under-17 – participated where they were taught batting, balling, wicket-keeping and fielding techniques by two qualified coaches from Pakistan Cricket Board.
Three classes in a week were held where children gained experience in physical activities while on every Friday they played matches amongst them and with other teams to groom their skills.
The participants enjoyed the camp as well as their training a lot. At the end of the camp a prize distribution ceremony was arranged on August 3 with Inzamamul Haq as the chief guest.
