Students below the age of 21 from across the UAE are being invited to participate in the 1st International Balloon Launch Challenge equipped with the scientific apparatus called “payload.”
The challenge is being organised by The Space Kidz India (SKI) in collaboration with the Government of Rajasthan.Dr Srimathy Kesan, Founder & CEO of The Space Kidz India, while revealing the details of the challenge to The Gulf Today via email said that students can build a payload in a cube and send it to their office on or before July 20 and then they will launch it in a Helium balloon from the desert of Rajasthan.
The contest has been initiated to mark a tribute towards the former president and scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam with the motto “Dream. Imagine. Believe.”
“Students under the age of 21years across the globe from any nationality can participate as the contest aims to give students hands on experience of building and launching their payload ‘Near Space’. This is the first step to reaching their ‘Space Dream’ and is being fully supported by the Government of Rajasthan and Space Kidz India, Chennai,” she said.
Responding to a question, she said, “There are a lot of students who have already worked on making Cube satellites and hence, I am extremely positive that students from the UAE will do some phenomenal thinking and send interesting payloads. This is a fine opportunity for all students especially from the UAE to fulfill their dream of becoming a scientist,” she added.
The participants will have the opportunity to fly their payload “near space” in a balloon. The 10 winners will be announced on July 8 and they will fly their balloons on July 25 and 26 free of cost in a facility set up in the desert of Rajasthan.
