Tie-up brings local talent to UAE film industry

EMIRATI film producer and director, and founder of The Scene (formally known as The Scene Club), Nayla Al Khaja and Meraas have announced a cultural collaboration between The Roxy Cinemas and The Scene to bring the most relevant, current and sought after festival films in their original formats to cinema lovers across the UAE, enabling them to enjoy both non-commercialised and big blockbuster films in the comfort of Roxy Cinema’s luxurious settings.
Nayla Al Khaja, talking to the media at a news conference held at the Roxy Cinema, Boxpark, Dubai said, “This collaboration provides us a platform to exhibit aspiring homegrown filmmakers, people like Abdulrahman Al Madani, Safia Al Mansouri and Aisha Al Zaabi, showcasing their talents and cultivating a growing audience through a monthly ‘Made in the UAE’ Film Production Series.”
The conference was also attended by the local film industry fraternity to discuss various aspects of the collaboration to bring local talent including Emiratis and expatriates.
The Scene is a private film club that showcases the best of world independent cinema. Founded in 2007 by Nayla Al Khaja, the Club quickly became the largest in the region and represents a powerful shift in altering the perception of cinema in the UAE.
