Rashid Centre holds 3-day workshop for therapists

PROFESSIONAL therapists from different institutes across the UAE have attended a 3-day workshop entitled “Specialist orthotics and gait analysis course” in Dubai.
The workshop was organised by the Rashid Centre for the Disabled for physiotherapists, inviting Elaine Owen, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist from the UK, to benefit the huge number of professionals from various government and private sector rehabilitation centres across the UAE.
Owen, a renowned UK-based specialist, through a series of lectures conducted the course entitled “Paediartric Gait Analysis and Orthotic Management: A segment kinematic approach to standing, stepping and gait rehabilitation”.
The Rashid Centre organised the 3-day workshop in its premises located in Al Barsha 1, Dubai. Professional therapists from different centres – including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt – attended and benefited from this one-of-a-kind workshop.
Maryam Othman, Director General of Rashid Centre, commented: “The workshop organised by Rashid Centre is a unique opportunity for professionals like paediatric physiotherapists, orthotics, occupational therapists and other professionals working in gait rehabilitation. The course is also highly relevant to people working in the fields of adult neurology and learning difficulties,” she said.
She further added that the workshop explored a fresh approach to the observation and analysis of typical walking and standing and the classification and management of gait disorders.
The UK-based specialist in her 3-day workshop also discussed a variety of aspects including biomechanics of typical standing and walking; a review of atypical gait arising from pathology/ disabling conditions; orthotic management of the functional challenges arising from atypical gait; demonstration of pre-gait analysis and orthotic management assessment and focus on cerebral palsy, myelomeningocoele and other neurological conditions.
All the participants received an illustrated course manual which includes extensive reference lists and directions for further reading and a CD containing additional information and proformas.
