UAE residents from different walks of life responded with excitement to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2017 as the “Year of Giving”.
With the start of the new year, not only the country’s huge corporate sector, but also different organisations and individuals have devised plans to participate in the initiative, according to their respective capacities. The Gulf Today spoke to a number of people from different segments of society, who shared their views on the initiative.
Mohamed Hadi stated that Sheikh Khalifa has been undertaking numerous humanitarian initiatives targeting the needy and deserving people world over. This, Hadi says, has been apparent especially in the Middle East whenever calamity strikes. 11-hadi.gif“And this year alike, people in many countries will be benefitting from His Highnesses Sheikh Khalifa and Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s generosity. The UAE Rulers are carrying out a number of projects to support millions of needy people in many countries. The spirit of humanitarianism has also been embraced by the corporate sector and individuals, who are supporting the ‘Year of Giving’ cause. This practice of helping people will not only be observed in 2017. It will continue in all the other years,” he added.
Maissoun Narch says that the announcement of 2017 as the “Year of the Giving” is not only a good humanitarian move, but also an opportunity for residents to reflec11-narch.gift upon the benefits of extending a helping hand as well as the differences such a stance would make in people’s lives. “We as residents of this country should show maximum generosity.
We should do good for other people as generosity is not just about giving food or money to the needy, but also treating well fellow residents,” she said
Manzoor Ahmad says that he is very proud of Sheikh Khalifa’s announcement of 2017 as the “Year of the Giving” to help people not only in the UAE, but also globally. “Every single human being should be good and generous. We should extend our support to others, especially the less fortunate. This should not only in the Muslim countries, but wherever aid is needed. People like myself who are in the working class can also be part of such noble causes. 11-manzour
Fellow members of the working class can extend their help in terms of money, time or any other thing, to help people in distress. The rewards of generosity are not only received in this world, but also in the hereafter as promised by Almighty Allah,” he added.
Ismail Saeed Ali pointed out that the initiative is a good gesture towards helping all the needy people, especially those in the most dire of circumstances. “It is not only the duty of the corporate sector to comply with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, but individuals should also extend a helping hand towards 11-ismailthe deserving people in their own way. This is because many individuals have been helping deserving people without being noticed by anyone. For me, the initiative is an opportunity for everyone such as members of my family, friends and other people around me to help the needy. It is an opportunity to give out whatever is extra, as a noble and kind gesture. We shall surely spread the ‘Year of Giving’ word in our social circles to motivate more people to be part of the initiative.”
Sheikh Muhammad Shahid says that the year-long initiative will certainly benefit millions of needy people. “The UAE, through the ‘Year of the Giving’ initiative is spreading a noble message to the world to enhance helping the needy and deserving 11-shahidpeople globally. I think everyone should come forward with open arms to be part of the programme. One can use money, time or skills to help deserving people. Besides the businessmen, members of the working class can also participate in the intitiative by sharing part of their salaries with the needy. This generosity should not stop in this ‘Year of Giving’. It should continue over the years as there are many people who need support,” he said.
