The Northern Irish way of good life

GLUTEN-free and sugar-free range of health and wellness products from Northern Ireland are increasingly becoming popular among the local health-conscious consumers. The trend is a proactive stance, considering the daily increase in the number of diabetic and Celiac disease patients.
Various exporters from Northern Ireland, who provide a wide range of health and wellness products, shared their views in an exclusive interview with The Gulf Today. The meetings, held in Invest Northern Ireland office, Belfast, were celebrating the Year of Food and Drink 2016 to promote the local products.
The Year of Food & Drink 2016 has a focus on tourism and Tourism NI is the lead organisation. The project also aims to support a wider agri-food objective to grow export food sales. Success in this area should also support the tourism agenda by building on Northern Ireland’s destination reputation.
Kevin Rafferty, general manager marketing Free’ist, a brand producing a number of sugar-free products told The Gulf Today that “in the last over three years, Free’ist products including chocolate, cookies, wafers and others have seen a 25 per cent increase as health conscious consumers in UAE take up the new trend.”
The products are already in Spinneys, Lulu Hypermarkets as negotiation are under way with other leading retailers operating in the UAE.
“We are very distinctive with other sugar-free brands as we are using maltitol and sucrose, since they are not only suitable for health conscious consumers in general, but are also harmless to diabetes patients,” he said.
Carol Little, the owner of gluten-free bakery New Found Joy in Portadown, NI said that the UAE market has a huge potential of healthy products as more and more people are exploring retail outlets to find out the right health…
