Pakistani expatriate marks N-Day with 900-km trek

CELEBRATING the UAE National Day uniquely has been the norm for citizens or expatriates in the country.
To set a novel example, Muhammad Idrees Malik, a Pakistani expatriate in Dubai, will walk from Hatta to Abu Dhabi, covering a distance of approximately 900 kilometres distance on foot.
It will be the third time, this year, that the Pakistidreesani expatriate will be walking to promote the friendship between UAE and Pakistan under the banner of “Pakistan-UAE Peace Walk” to cover 900 kilometres in 13 days.
Talking to The Gulf Today from a restaurant in Satwa, Dubai, Malik said the support he received following the earlier two walks encouraged him to spread out his trek to cover more destinations throughout the country.
In this regard, the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai helped him to obtain official permission from the Dubai Police to carry out his mission without hindrance from Police Patrols on highways, especially during the night.
“Everyone in this country has been enjoying a good life. In my view the idea of walking throughout the country is to thank and acknowledge the peace and prosperity in the UAE. On the occasion of 44th National Day I will starting my walk to cover a more than 900 km distance, from Hatta Police Station. It will last 13 days and 12 nights,” he said.
Carrying only a couple of clothes and a shawl to complete his long walk, Malik will be dressed in colours of the Pakistan flag with his chest adorned by UAE’s flag stickers and badges of UAE Rulers’ pictures. He will reach Abu…
