DUBAI plays a central role in promoting a vibrant art scene, and artists from all over the world are seeing it as a broad platform for presenting their artwork, meeting art lovers, and selling them for the right price.
This was stated by Khusro Subzwari in an exclusive interview with The Gulf Today on Friday prior to the opening of the three-day “Art for All” event in which he, among many other prominent Pakistani artists, will showcase their artwork and meet their fans.
The 3-day “Art for All” to present artwork from international artists is being organised by ArtZest at The Gallery of Light, Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre (DUCTAC), Mall of the Emirates till Nov.15. The event opened on Friday with a coffee book signing with senior and prominent Pakistani artist Mashkoor Raza. It was attended by a large number of art lovers from different expatriate communities based in Dubai.
Subzwari has been participating in the annual ArtZest for the third time to showcase his popular artwork theme “Whirling Derwish,” based on Rumi’s sayings which he started four years ago and produced hundreds of paintings.
“Besides participating in the ‘Art for All’ event, my paintings have been displayed in different galleries and showrooms in Dubai and received a huge response. More and more people are now reading the teachings of Mawlana Al Rumi and understanding his message, helping to connect the creator to its readers,” he said.
He gave the credit to prominent authors like Coleman Barks and Zara Houshmand who translated Rumi’s work into English. They helped millions of people around the world understand his teachings to show people the right path to connect with the creator, refusing to indulge themselves deeply in the materialistic world.
“I think the translated works which have been on prominent bestselling ratings in the West was one of the main reasons attracting people to my paintings. Each ‘Whirling Dervish’ painting was based on a saying. Art lovers in Pakistan as well as everywhere I have displayejamil-artzest-2d my paintings expressed their deep satisfaction in understanding the mystic world introduced by Rumi,” he said.
