PAD Celebrates 69th I-Day

Pakistani expats honour nation’s Independence Day with festive spirit

DUBAI: A large number of families from the Pakistani community from Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman celebrated the country’s 69th Independence Day organised by the Pakistan Association Dubai.
The event was filled with activities and celebrated by the community members from all walks of life with great enthusiasm at the Auditorium of Pakistan Education Academy, Dubai, all of whom showed their love for Pakistan.
The participants included women, youths and children in costumes depicting the Pakistani flag and showing their affection for their motherland. During the whole event they were waving Pakistani flags in their hands and singing national songs. Throughout the evening, a magic show, quiz competition, face painting, and national dress competitions added more colour to the event. Tableaus and skits were also presented by children showing the national slogans of unity, faith and discipline, and a band of live performers presented various national songs during the event.
Tahir Hasnain Zaidi, the Joint Secretary, welcomed the audience and thanked the public for their active participation in the event. He welcomed the audience and the chief guests of the occasion as well.
For the occasion, Sitara Barooj Akbar was honoured with the shield for her brilliant academic achievements, and Asif Khan Muhammad and Yousuf Khan Mohammad were honoured with shields for their honesty. Dubai Police also honoured these two brothers for their honesty, brining a good name to the country from abroad.
The Consul General and Ambassador of Pakistan presented them with shields and praised their achievements.
Asif Durrani, Ambassador of Pakistan and Javed Jalil Khattak, Consul General of Pakistan, were the chief guests of the occasion. The ambassador lauded the spirit of the independence of the youths, and congratulated the expatriate Pakistani community on the celebrations of this special day of independence.
Dr Faisel Ikram, General Secretary, in his vote of thanks congratulated the community for showing their unity on this national day and thanked them for joining in the celebrations. He also thanked the honourable chief guests, Khattak and Durrani, Rana Samar Javed, Head of Chancery-Pakistan Consulate, Dr Riaz Hussain Laang, welfare counsellor, and other dignitaries from the community for their presence.
A large cake was cut by Durrani to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day. Gift hampers were distributed among the participants at the end of the show.
However, events to mark the country’s Independence Day were also held at the Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah, while various groups also held events in different hotels and public places to cut the cake and showcased national songs in the process.
