DUBAI: Pakistanis from different walks of life, residing all over the UAE, are gearing up to celebrate the country’s 68th Independence Day with traditional fervour on Aug. 14.
The UAE has over 1.2 million Pakistani expats living in almost every emirate and playing a vital role in the country’s prosperity and increasing its foreign reserves through their remittances.
Like every year, on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day, flag hoisting ceremonies will be held at the premises of the Embassy of Pakistan Abu Dhabi and Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai at 8am simultaneously on Aug 14.
Expats residing in different parts of the UAE are invited to take part in the ceremonies according to their convenience and show their patriotic enthusiasm.
It is tradition that a large number of expats, especially families, join in to at these ceremonies in which the heads of Pakistani missions – Ambassador in Abu Dhabi and Consul General in Dubai – read out the messages from the president and prime minister of Pakistan to the audience.
However, to keep the tradition alive, the Pakistan Association Dubai has also organised a large event for celebrating the country’s Independence Day with great gusto.
A colourful event will be held on Aug.14 at 7:15pm at the auditorium of the Pakistan Education Academy in Oud Metha, Dubai.
Asif Durrani, the Ambassador of Pakistan and Javed Jalil Khattak, Consul General of Pakistan, will be among the dignitaries to grace the function.
“The evening will be full of an array of activities from the presentation of national songs, dances and tableaus to reflect the rich culture of different parts of the country to entertain the audience which will comprise community members from different walks of life,” said Dr Faisel Ikram, General Secretary, PAD.
Furthermore, a group of prominent expats known for their role in organising cultural and entertainment programmes promised to provide a great opportunity to their community in Dubai for a chance to attend an event full of fun, music and entertainment.
“We are in the final stage to announce the details of an entertainment evening as part of the country’s 68th Independence Day celebrations. The programme will invite a number of prominent showbiz personalities from Pakistan to entertain the community in the UAE with the aim of highlighting the patriotism and enthusiasm of the expatriates,” Sharafat Shah told The Gulf Today on Monday.
He said the guests from Pakistan will both entertain the local audience and also have a chance to enjoy the evening themselves.
