PAD targets 1,000 needy families in ‘Ramadan Food Packages’ campaign

PAKISTAN Association Dubai (PAD) as part of its annual charity initiative towards the deserving community members in the UAE has launched a month-long drive to provide essential food items. The campaign is targeting over 1,000 families in the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The ‘Ramadan Food Packages’ was announced earlier this month to encourage the community members to extend their financial support in the said fund.
On Thursday, at the association’s premises, office-bearers and community members in the presence of the media distributed vouchers as Ramadan Food Packages among a group of deserving families.
The event was attended by PAD officials including Dr Faisal Ikram, general secretary, Maqbool Islam, welfare secretary, Muhammad Zaim, information secretary among others. Haroon Malik, Welfare Counsellor, Pakistan Consulate in Dubai, was the chief guest.
Dr Ikram pointed out that the community members, as is usually the case, showed great response in pooling the funds needed to make the initiative happen. “For the last couple of years, the PAD with the collaboration of its members has been providing food packages which consist of a number of essential edible items for families to enjoy the happiness of the Ramadan fully. Last year, we distributed Ramadan food packages among 850 families in the UAE. This was mostly in Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai. This year we are targeting over 1,000 families-in-need to provide the food packages, as part of our service towards the community,” he added.
As part of the initiative, the association has for the last couple of years tied up with Lulu Hypermarket for the needy families to get their food items, from the shopping destination, as part of the Ramadan package. Likewise, this year, all the branches of Lulu Hypermarket will serve the community members who have the PAD ‘Ramadan Food Packages’ vouchers worth Dhs300. They can buy any food items of their need.
“Ramadan is the Holy Month in which everyone is giving and supporting the needy members of the community in their own way,” said Malik while addressing the gathering, adding, “the association has been exercising the practice of giving food package to hundreds of needy community members in the UAE. This event with the support of Pakistani philanthropists is a true reflection of the nation which is always on the forefront of any charity event regardless of borders.”
It is also reported that the PAD has announced the details of its Ramadan community programmes including mosque cleaning, health awareness campaign and Iftar distribution among labourers and awareness lectures for the community in PAD premises.
The community members and part of religious committee of PAD will organise a cleaning initiative in the mosque located in Oud Metha near the Pakistan Education Academy. The health awareness camp will be held in a labour accommodation in Dubai to provide Iftar and gift items among 2,500 labourers on July 3.
