The Gulf Today basks in DSF awards’ glory

DUBAI: The Gulf Today has won two awards for best coverage during the 20th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival concluded recently.
In a ceremony held at Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa Dubai, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), honoured the winners of the Dubai Shopping Festival 2015 Media Awards. The event was graced by Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum,  President of the Department of Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, and Expo 2020 Higher Committee Chairman.jim @ DSF Media Awards 2015d
The Gulf Today was awarded in the category of Best Feature-Local Newspaper (Celebrations). The award went to  Jamil Khan, Senior Reporter for his article titled “5.522km long gold chain ropes in Guinness World Record”. In the same category, the third prize for photography was awarded to Kamal Kassim, senior photographer.
The awards ceremony was also attended by Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General, Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of DFRE, and a large number of distinguished guests and esteemed members of local, regional and international media organisations.
The ceremony included a short video presentation on DSF’s journey in the last two decades, showcasing DSF’s position as a highly successful, unique global family-friendly extravaganza.
In his message, Sheikh Ahmed said:  “With the successful conclusion of its 20th edition, the Dubai Shopping Festival has truly established itself as a festival of global repute. Undoubtedly, it is one of the central pillars driving the emirate’s economy especially with its diverse offerings that year after year generate a significantly positive impact on almost every sector of Dubai. Since its launch and under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the festival has witnessed all the crucial developments that have shaped the economy of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular. DSF has now come to be associated among retailers and visitors from around the world as one of the most awaited periods of the year.”
Helal Saeed Almarri said: “The successful conclusion of Dubai Shopping Festival’s 20th Anniversary is an achievement that demonstrates Dubai’s ability to organise world-class festivals and events that showcase the city as a must-experience family tourism destination. The success is also a reflection of the crucial role played by the media in promoting this festival and Dubai on the global stage. Today’s awards ceremony is our way of expressing appreciation to our partners from the media for their unstinted support during DSF and throughout the year. In her speech, Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of DFRE, said, “There is no better evidence to the soundness and depth of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, than our gathering today, as we celebrate with you and acknowledge the efforts of media figures at the conclusion of the historic twentieth edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF),  that was launched in 1996, based on the vision of His Highness. And today, after twenty years, DSF has become the icon of festivals in the region and the world, and has substantially contributed to turning Dubai into a key festival and tourist destination on both regional and international levels.
