DUBAI: Hundreds of residents from different residential apartments surrounding Dubai Downtown have been enjoying a wide range of entertainment and retail shopping options, as the second edition of the 10-day Market OTB began on Thursday.
As part of the 20th Anniversary of the Dubai Shopping Festival, the second edition of Market OTB aims to deliver a destination of discovery for retail, dining and entertainment concepts at the South Ridge Park surrounded by prominent skyscrapers in Downtown Dubai.
This year’s edition of the open air market presented a wide range of products in collaboration with over 55 retailers while musicians were also ready to entertain visitors through their unique line of presentation.
To support Dubai’s Expo 2020 vision to reduce waste and conserve finite resources, Market OTB uses refurbished shipping containers to house its retail concepts including fashion, jewellery, art and interiors, as well as cubic structures made from recycled bottles to host panel discussions and talks around this subject by industry experts.
Zahed Sultan, a Kuwaiti artist known as an alternative multimedia artist — along with others, presented live performances.
During the 10-day Market OTB, a number of performances will be featured including an opening performance by Zahed Sultan followed by a first-ever live performance in Dubai by Lebanese singer, songwriter and visual artist Tania Saleh on Jan 23 supporting her new album, A Few Images (Algumas Imagens). The live music performances throughout the event are supported by OHM Records.
“Market OTB is a DFRE initiative and presented by DSF to create a destination of discovery, where the community gathers in a sustainably created space to experience new retail talent, performances, and fun for the whole family,” said Suhaila Ghubash, Director, Festival and Events at Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and the organisers of DSF.
Laila Mohammad Suhail, CEO of the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), also visited on opening night and talked to a number of retailers as well as visitors wishing for a record participation by retailers, visitors and other live performances as part of the 20th anniversary of the DSF.
However, for the first time this year, an outdoor cinema concept will include screenings from regional filmmakers throughout Market OTB. To encourage emerging and upcoming retailers and entertain a diversity of guests, the JamJar will feature arts and crafts activities, while the skater community can test their skills on a ramp custom-created by RAGE.
Visitors can experience Market OTB from 4pm – 10pm from Sunday to Thursday, and from 10am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday.  Entry to Market OTB and all supplementary events is complimentary.
