DUBAI: Palestinian artist and the winner of Arab Idol, Mohammed Assaf, visited the Rashid Center for the Disabled and attended various activities where children with special needs took part.
He was accompanied by Maryam Othman, Director General of the Centre, while reviewing the different facilities at the centre.
He was told about the services offered by the institution for its over 300 students with different disabilities and its exclusive rehabilitation programmes tailored for every individual.
As part of the tour, Assaf reviewed the performances of students with special needs at the Drama Section and was surprised by the dance and other skills displayed by the highly talented students.
“I’m very surprised to see the dynamic approach of these students having disabilities. They are not looking back, but accept the challenges and excel in different fields,” he said, repeating a famous quotation “disability is not in the body, but in mind and will” by Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Assaf stressed on the role of artistes throughout the Arab World to raise awareness on the special needs as well as to highlight the plight of young children of Palestinian and especially Syrian refugee children who face severe problems in different camps during the harsh winter season.
The Palestinian artiste profoundly admired the support offered by the philanthropists and offered his gratitude to the management for taking good care of students at the centre.
Later, he also received a gift from a student, and signed a Palestinian keffiyeh and handed over to the Rashid Centre to be auctioned in the upcoming Stars Auction, scheduled to take place on Nov.24 to raise funds for the centre.
