PAD celebrates National Day with community members

DUBAI: The ongoing month-long solidarity celebrations by the Pakistani community in Dubai has seen a number of activities in the last couple of days including a walk, free medical camp, food festival and Meena Bazaar.
The solidarity walk has become an annual event by the Pakistani community in Dubai and other adjacent emirates to showcase their solidarity with the UAE. The events are organised by the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) with the participation of community members, officials and school children.
The success of the four-day “Meena Bazaar” festival organised in its premises by the association also witnessed a huge turnout of families and children. The festival was part of the series of programmes planned by the association to express their solidarity with the UAE on its 43rd National Day. The month-long solidarity programmes started on Nov.7 and continued with the Spirit of Union with a competition between hundreds of children from schools all over the UAE.
The Solidarity Walk attended by hundreds of community members and was led by Javed Jalil Khattak, Consul General of Pakistan while the guests participated were Zahid Tirmzi, Vice President PAD, Dr Faisel Ikram, General Secretary of PAD and members of other expatriate communities took part in the walk.
School bands from the community schools as well as university students, community groups, PAD wings and people from all walks of life, dressed in colourful clothes and carried the UAE and Pakistani flags, which was the hallmark of the event. Local and Pakistani traditional dances were displayed during the walk. The walk started from the Pakistan Education Academy and concluded at the association premises followed by the National anthems and 60 pound (around 28 kg) cake cutting ceremony.
The food festival had a variety of activities such as magic shows, cartoon characters, and bouncy castle and etc.
The association brought the prominent TV host and cooking expert Shireen Anwar and Rid Aftab of Masala TV, who demonstrated a number of recipes live from the main stage for hundreds of audiences daily throughout the festival.
The other prominent attractions were the acts performed by famous Pakistani comedian Hanif Raja and the Magic Shows. Many stalls offered dresses and other traditional garments along with Henna decoration while the food court offered visitors a daily supply of their favourites at the festival. Daily raffle draws including Umrah tickets, diamond ring, health vouchers and various other prizes was part of the attractions.
A health awareness camp organised by the Medical Wing of Pakistan Association Dubai was also a part of the celebrations in which the community members were provided free basic health check, blood cholesterol blood sugar and BMI tests.
Lectures on personal hygiene, hand washing, oral hygiene and brushing were also held. Free Health Vouchers were distributed. American Hospital, Aster Group, NMC Hospital and Mediclinic City Hospital were among the participants.
