DUBAI: The mood leading up to the UAE’s 43 National Day is escalating for individuals as well as corporates.
Malik Idrees, a Pakistani expatriate based in Dubai, came up with a unique way to commemorate the country’s 43rd National Day by walking to all seven emirates by foot without breaks. Malik Idrees with Consul General Javed Jalil Khattak at CG residence.
“It is not an easy challenge, but my intention was to proclaim a message of peace to the world. We enjoy such peace under the leadership of our great leaders like President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, among others,” he said while talking to the media in a reception hosted by Javed Jalil Khattak,  Pakistan Consul General in Dubai and Northern Emirates.
The reception was held at the residence of the Consul General in Dubai upon his arrival, which was attended by consulate officials and representatives of Pakistan Association Dubai on Sunday.
Idrees, who has been working as a carpenter in Dubai for the last nine years, belonged to the Mandi Bahauddin from the Punjab province in Pakistan, and did a similar walkathon last year.

Message of peace
“I walk to all seven emirates last year as well, but this time I told my friends and community ahead of the walk so they can spread the message of peace, which not only helps me to endeavour my challenge but also raised awareness on my objective,” he said.
He started his 7-day walk on Nov 26 from Fujairah and he will reach Abu Dhabi on Dec 2, where at the Corniche the Pakistan Embassy delegation led by Asif Ali Durrani will receive him.
“During the walk started from Fujairah, I was received by local police officials as well as army personnel who not only appreciated my intention of promoting the message of peace, but they also offered me food and information of the protocol in their respective emirates. Sleeping at a foothill was also a unique experience that I had without any fear.

Great experience
“It was a great experience without much difficulties, except for swollen feet, as I met with locals, foreigners and received their appreciation,” he shared his experience with the media.
Talking to the gathering, the Consul General appreciated the intention of Malik Idrees and pointed out that the hard-working expatriate community has been the true ambassador of the country and we are happy that the individuals are taking steps to spread harmony in this country where people from all over the world are living peacefully.
