JAMIL-Polio-Film-2DUBAI: Hundreds of blue-collar workers belonging to different Asian countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and others, took part in the first leg of screening of the awareness video ‘Leap Of Faith’ which talks about polio among the expatriates.
The video screening highlights the damage of polio among children and educates the expatriates on the effects including permanent disability leading to death.
The screening was held at Al Naboodah Labour Camp, Al Ruwaiyah in Dubai.
Expatriate labourers from different countries showed great interest in the efforts of ImageNation Abu Dhabi who produced the short film.
More than 200 expatriates watched the 2-minute long awareness video.
The entertainment programme also included the showing of Bollywood movie “Dabangg” featuring Salman Khan.
Shishir Baxi, Communication Director of Right Track and organiser of the screening at the labour camp, told The Gulf Today that the video was made by Image Nation Abu Dhabi to create awareness among the expatriates especially from Pakistan.
“Unfortunately there are still some cases of polio in Pakistan in which children not only suffer from permanent disability but it also resulted in death in some cases. Through this video we are asking Pakistani expatriates to know the disease and its damage and persuade their families back home to get vaccination which is free and save lives,” he said.
Baxi pointed that they are also getting huge response on their social media pages about the campaign.
Al Naboodah Labour Camp in Al Ruwaiyah has been accommodating around 8000 workers from different nationalities working in a wide range of sectors in Dubai.
The film is being screened at various forums like different labour camps in order to reach the Pakistani expatriates, with a supporting advertising campaign running between June and September 2014.
The film is being showcased during free movie screenings being conducted at labour accommodations across the UAE.
According to the media reports, polio is a very important public health issue in Pakistan, which is one of the last remaining countries where the disease has not been fully eradicated as this year around 180 new cases of polio have been reported from different parts of the country.
The UAE and Pakistan have shared a close relationship for many years, and General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and  Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces is committed to supporting polio eradication in Pakistan.
The UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme recently launched a vaccination campaign aimed at reaching over 3.5 million children in Pakistan.
The next screening will be held on Aug.12 at Dulsco Labour Camp in Sonapur between 6 pm-10 pm.
