DUBAI: The Pakistani community residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates is providing a number of opportunities during the Holy Month of Ramadan to spread the blessings in the less privileged segments of society.
The association throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan arranged various activities to engage the community in collecting funds to provide food packages among the deserving families, organising evenings to clean up a community mosque, free health awareness camps for blue-collar workers and aiding in the distribution of free Iftar in different labour camps.

Family Fair
A one-day fair was also planned to bring community members, especially families and children, to provide day-out facilities. The Chand Raat and Eid Mela event will be organised on July 25 (Friday) at the association’s premises in which retailers and individuals are planning to set up various stalls to provide shopping opportunities to the families and fun activities for the children.
The fair has stalls that offer ladies garments, fashion accessories, shoes, henna paintings and a food court for the visitors, while a dedicated corner with fun activities is sure to enthral young children.
The officials pointed out that the purpose of the fair is to provide an opportunity for housewives at the association to get together with other families, while fulfilling their shopping needs for Eid with a variety of goods from Pakistan.

Sporting events
The sports committee of the association has also arranged a football tournament in its premises. In one of its unique events, eight teams participated in the six-a-side teams played on knock-out based matches which began after midnight.
Youths participated in the event as well older people, giving them a healthy boost and encouraging them to participate in sports activities. “The response was very good, especially during Ramadan. Since the Football World Cup was on, we thought to keep the spirit of this game,” said Raja Asad Farooq, sports secretary PAD.
We had invited all community teams and it was good to see the participation of an Indian team in the tournament, he added.
The final tournament was won by FC Strikers. Pakistan Association Dubai announced that the winning and runnerup teams will be awarded trophies and medals in their upcoming event in August to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations. The tournament was attended by many PAD members.
