JAMIL-PAD-FOOD-1DUBAI: The Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), in collaboration with community support, has started the distribution of charity food packages among deserving families and vowed to support around 750 families in the Holy Month of Ramadan.
In a ceremony held at the association’s premises on Monday evening, a group of families were handed over the vouchers so that they could collect the allocated food package from the Lulu Hypermarket in Sharjah, Al Wahda branch at their own convenience.
Bushra Al Rahoomi, CEO of Al Jalila Culture Centre for Children, Dubai was the chief guest and Javed Jalil Khattak, Consul General of Pakistan, was the guest of honour while members and supporters of the association were also present on the occasion.
Last year, about 500 Ramadan food packages were distributed and this year the deserving families will get their vouchers at the PAD office while the volunteers are also planning to send food packages to the doorsteps of those who are not planning to visit the association.
“The packages have almost all the necessary food items for an average family for about a month. I’m very thankful for the community in donating and their support,” Dr Faisel said.
The PAD asked the deserving families to register themselves at their office so they could issue them the coupons and the deserving families were treated accordingly.
Ikram pointed that besides distributing the free food packages to deserving families, the association was also working to get a number of prisoners from Dubai jail released, waiting for someone to pay their minor fines so that they could join their families on the occasion of Eid. Last year, the association got freed 13 prisoners by paying their fines and also arranged air tickets for them to join their families in Pakistan.
“PAD will also conduct a health awareness event at one of the labour camps to provide basic health checkup facilities and Iftar food,” he added.
He also said that PAD’s efforts were in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister  and Ruler of Dubai,  and his message for Ramadan as a month of sharing and fulfilling social responsibility.
Bushra Al Rahoomi said, “I would like to thank PAD, this reflects the spirit of Ramadan – giving and sharing with others. Pakistan and the UAE have been brothers for ages. Helping and supporting each other in Ramadan is a great service of humanity,” she added.
Javaid Jalil Khattak appreciated PAD for organising such activities and praised that PAD had always been at the forefront in taking necessary steps for the Pakistani community in the UAE. He highlighted the Consulate’s contribution in such activities and desire to join hands with PAD for prisoners’ release and in the education sector.
Later, Bushra Al Rahoomi handed out the food coupons to the needy families.
Tahir Zaidi, joint secretary, thanked the guests for attending the ceremony.
