Hotel organises Iftar for old people’s home

SHARJAH: For the second consecutive year, inhabitants of Old People House in Sharjah have been enjoying the free Iftar sponsored by the Centro Sharjah hotel as part of its annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The charity Iftar was organised with the aim of celebrating the true essence of the Holy Month of Ramadan as the hotel hosts around 100 persons for an Iftar feast in the centre on Sunday.
The centre, Old People House in Sharjah operating under the Social Services Department of Sharjah Government, established in 1986, has been supporting and aIMG_6225ssisting the old people from Sharjah aged 60 and above. The government of Sharjah provides them their basic necessities, from food, clothing to shelter, medical attention and medicines.
Currently the centre has around 40 senior citizens. The supporting staff at the centre provides all the facilities round the clock.
The hotel management headed by Maan Cheikh Hussain, Centro Sharjah Front Office Manager and heads of different departments were also present on the occasion.
Maan Cheikh Hussain said as the word Ramadan conveys, it’s the time of year where everyone focuses on charity, forgiving, and praying. “As part of our CSR activities we are organising various gatherings for the different segments of the society. Through this charity Iftar, we are providing a wonderful opportunity to share this remarkable moment to individuals that truly value Ramadan,” he added.
Mansour Mohammed Haji told The Gulf Today said that the centre has been receiving support from individuals as well as corporate sectors who are providing food and other necessary items for the old people permanently residing in the centre.
“The Sharjah Government is fully providing all the facilities including medical and rehabilitation. With the help of supporting staff, the senior citizens in the centre are leading a quality life in the presence of all the necessary facilities from rehabilitation to medical while every week a group is taken for outdoor activities like sight seeing,” he said.
For the past three years, the hotel has been active with several community services and supporting non-government organisations. The hotel’s initiative confirmed the commitment of Centro Sharjah to its core values of respect and integrity demonstrated by giving back to the community.
The management and a group of elderly people of the centre expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the support and for choosing them to celebrate Iftar.
