DUBAI: The month-long painting exhibition of the artworks by a prominent Pakistani artist Khusro Subzwari, has started in Dubai in connection with the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The “Flight to Enlightenment” exhibition is a collection of artworks dwelling on the philosophy of Mevlana Rumi’s poetry, on which Subzwari has worked for the past three years.
The exhibition was opened by Jimmy Engineer, one of the country’s well known social workers and artists, at the Z Gallery at the Four Points by Sheraton in Dubai on Wednesday evening.
Subzwari, who had worked in different forms and styles like landscapes, cityscapes, abstract and others, has put his deep feelings on canvas to represent Mevlana Rumi’s poetry. He has showcased his paintings in different cities of Pakistan and also participated in various international exhibitions in Istanbul, London and the UAE. He has also exhibited and represented Pakistan at the International Art Fair in Lugano, Switzerland, in November 2012.
Talking to The Gulf Today, Subzwari told that he started painting the whirling dervishes since he visited Turkey while attending his solo exhibition. “During the stay in Istanbul, I witnessed dervishes in different parts of the city while attending “samaa” sessions and their movements on the Rumi’s poetry in trances mesmerised me and gripped my attention wholly. For the past three years, I have been painting and so far have painted over 500 paintings based on different verses of Rumi poetry.  Many of the paintings are now in private collection of art lovers,” he said.
He is exhibiting his paintings “Flight to Enlightenment” based on the mystic dances by dervishes, which was at the request of the hotel that has organised the exhibition related to the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The organisers have decorated the whole gallery with 37 paintings by the artist and offer visitors a chance to enjoy a different form of art during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Jimmy Engineer, a prominent social worker and artist, opened the exhibition in the presence of a number of art lovers. He told The Gulf Today that the theme selected by Subzwari was not only fascinating but also gave the viewers a chance to join him in the spiritual journey through his paintings. “Each painting is great, with the balance of colour appropriate theme and most of them reflecting the philosophy of Rumi.
“Dubai with the passage of time has evolved as a great destination for artists and the multinational audience who for sure will like these paintings,” he said.
The exhibition will run till mid-August at the Z Gallery at Four Points by Sheraton in Dubai.
