PAD organises free medical camp for labourers

DUBAI: A large number of blue-collar workers in different camps in Dubai were provided various free health checkups by a group of doctors and paramedics as part of the World Labour Day celebrations.
The camp – Your Health is Community’s Health – to provide free health checkups was organised by the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) at the IFFCO Labour Camp in Al Quoz, Dubai.
A group of doctors from the medical wing of the association were present to cater to thousands of labourers along with medical teams from Mediclinic City Hospital, The American Hospital, Northwest Clinic, NMC Hospital, Al Abrah Clinic and RAK College of Dentistry.
The workers were given the facilities to obtain the free health checkups of different tests including blood pressure, blood sugar, blood cholesterol, body mass index (BMI) and Hepatitis-C screening.
Free medical consultation was given by specialists from all disciplines, including dermatologists, orthopaedics, gastroenterologists, family physicians, diabetologists and cardiologists.
However, some doctors also delivered lectures on hypertension, diabetes, oral hygiene and hand washing as part of their awareness drive for the workers on common health issues.
Besides the health checkups, one of the sponsors, UAE Exchange, arranged a series of fun activities including a quiz programme, fun games and a raffle draw with exciting prizes for the labourers.
Dr Faisel Ikram, general secretary of the association heading the camp, welcomed the guests from the Community Development Authority (CDA) which included Dr Omar Muthana, CEO CDA, Saleh Al Mazmi, head of licensing and Pulani Babu, Farooq Lang, commercial welfare attache at the Pakistan Embassy and Haroon Malik, welfare consul from the Consulate of Pakistan in Dubai along with senior IFFCO officials.
Ikram shed light on the association’s activities related to the medical wing and others on the Labour Day observances and the significance of the health activity.
He mentioned that the PAD medical wing had been conducting health activities in labour camps for the last three years under the supervision of CDA, along with the monthly free medical camps at the PAD premises for the last over five years.
Dr Nighat Aftab, president, PAD Medical Wing, and Dr Aemrah Shah, general secretary and other doctors conducted interactive sessions which gave quality information about basic hygiene in brushing the teeth and washing hands.
Dr Omar Muthana congratulated PAD in organising the event for the third consecutive year. He mentioned that labourers were the real force in the growth and development of UAE and we should not forget to give them importance on this day.
Malik appreciated the efforts of PAD Medical Wing for inviting them and making them part of such an important occasion. He also stressed the role of labourers in a vibrant community and reiterated his full support for future activities.
Later, the guests toured the various health stations and appreciated the role of partner hospitals and clinics. They also took part in the raffle draw and distributed prizes among the labourers.
