PAD awards prominent Pakistanis on National Day celebrations

Dubai: The Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) as part of Pakistan Day celebration has started a new initiative to present awards to prominent community members and organisations striving for the betterment of the community individually and collectively.
In the evening to mark the Pakistan Day celebration, the association awarded 14 individuals and four organisations for their contribution.
The chief guest of the event was Tariq Wazir, head of chancery at the Pakistan Consulate.
A large number of community members and families as well as representatives were also present at the event.
Dr Faisal Ikram, general secretary PAD, in his welcome note pointed that they have been celebrating the National Day in the UAE every year but this time the association added more flavour to honour the prominent community members and recognise their services.
“It is a tribute from the association for those who without any reward serve the community as well as portray a good image of the country overseas,” he said.
He added that the appreciation award will be given every year as a committee has been formed to identify distinguish Pakistanis.
He made it clear that the association will continue to recognise the services of prominent community members and organise such events annually.
Wazir appreciated the association’s efforts  to celebrate Pakistan Day in a unique way and the idea to appreciate the community members will increase the moral among the community. An Emirati Dr Zubair Farooq was conferred with an award for his contribution inpromoting Pak-UAE friendship.
He has chosen Urdu language for his poetry and written a number of poetry and other books in Urdu and well known in the Pakistani community in the UAE.
The individuals who were awarded were Yasmin Wazir, Rizwan Fancy and Abdul Sattar Pardesi for their contribution in the welfare sector, Sharafat Ali Shah (culture and arts), Ghazi Marjan (a social worker), Imran Hilal (to help individuals in finding jobs), Musarrat Hussain, Samina Nasir (education), Dr Nighat Aftab (medical), Iftikhar Hamdani (hoteliering), A S Muslim (prominent writer and Pakistan Movement worker), Dr Sarwat Zehra (literature) and Aqib Javed (sports).
However, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the PAD and Skyline University was also signed.
The university during the next couple of years will award scholarships to Pakistani students in post-graduate and graduate degrees worth one million dirhams in total.
During the evening, a group of students from the Pakistan School Ajman presented a tableau and received a tremendous applause.
