DUBAI: British professional boxer David Haye, known as ‘The Hayemaker,’ has visited the Rashid Centre for Disabled (RCD) and vowed that he would bring his partners to support the Centre and its children with special needs through a series of programmes that would be launched shortly.
Sharing his experiences during his visit to RCD earlier on Wednesday, Haye said that he was very impressed with the services and the education programme on offer for the children with special needs.
“It was amazing to see that each and every child at the Centre was satisfied, which showed in the smiles that reflected their happiness at the professional approach of the Centre’s staff towards them,” he added.
“Diabetes is a major concern in Dubai, especially among young children. I have been in Dubai for a while and seen sweet shops all over the malls as well as junk food outlets that have fuelled an alarming increase in the incidence of the disease among young children. Definitely, we are going to address this issue through our meals programme as well as our training programme focusing on health, fitness and education,” he said, in response to a question.
He also pointed that post this visit, he would continue to support RCD through his gym as well as his partners.
Haye has already set up his ‘The Hayemaker Gym’ in Downtown Dubai to provide fitness and training solutions to local fans.
“The Hayemaker Gym will be the world’s first virtual training gym,” he added.
Maryam Othman, Director-General of RCD has said that visits of prominent personalities like David Haye always bring smiles on the faces of the Centre’s children.
She pointed out that such guests were always welcome to bring people to their Centre to learn about the services and facilities being provided to the children with special needs.
Earlier, RCD officials, including board members, accompanied the boxing star on a tour of the Centre, which saw him interacting with the children at the Centre’s indoor sports hall.
