New panel registers to contest upcoming election at short notice

SHARJAH: As the date of the general body meeting for the members of Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah drawing nearer to decide the new body to run the centre, the momentum of the election process caused the emergence of another panel to challenge the only panel elected in the past two terms.
The general body meeting is scheduled to be held on the 28th of November and in the presence of the official from the Sharjah Social Affairs Department, who had asked all the 174 permanent members to attend and finalise the new body.
The panel which is headed by former president Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal and his 11-member team had been the only option for the community last week.
Two days ago, another panel submitted their papers and will contest the elections this weekend.
The meeting as well as the election process for electing the new body will take place on Thursday (Nov 28) at the centre in Sharjah.
The panel features Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal (president), Mumtaz Ali (vice president), Muhammad Nawaz (general secretary), Taqi Saeed (joint secretary), Dost Muhammad Awan (finance secretary), Iftikhar Ali (education and religious secretary), Javed Najam (welfare secretary),  Rashid Ali (social and cultural secretary), Muhammad Dawood (legal affair secretary), Khalilur Rehman (sport secretary) and Ehsanullah Khan (information secretary).
The new Chaudhry Khalid Hussain Sabir panel consists of Irfan Qadir Raja (vice president), Rafiq Nasar (general secretary), Safeer Satti (joint secretary), Iftikhar Ahmed Chaudhry (finance secretary) and Chaudhry Muhammad Nasir (cultural secretary).  
Talking to The Gulf Today, Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal said that during the last two terms they had did what they could for the community and they are ready to lead the community in their third term.
Chaudhry Khalid assured everyone that the members will elect their panel as they have not only the new faces but also a new agenda to run the centre, and “We are optimistic that our community will choose our panel as we will strive hard to benefit the community through our huge range off activities to be announced soon,” he said.
Both candidates and their members are hoping that the permanent members of the centre will turn up on the day of general body meeting and show their commitment to their party, resulting in the full operational ability of the social centre and resolving the issues faced by the community in Sharjah and Ajman.
