DUBAI: Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) has unveiled the details of its month-long solidarity programmes devised to celebrate the UAE’s 42nd National Day.
In a press conference, Zahid Tirmizi, vice president, Dr Faisal Ikram, general secretary and Tahir Zaidi, joint general secretary, highlighted the details of eight programmes starting Nov.22-Dec.12.
“Like every year, the Pakistani community in Dubai will show their solidarity through an array of events with the UAE, which is considered as a second home by the community. Last year we had seven events including solidarity walks to community fairs and workshops and this year we have planned eight programmes to run through the month,” he said.
The association kicked off the celebrations from an evening to engage schoolchildren of Pakistani schools to take part in competitions like quiz, painting, calligraphy and poster designing under the theme “Iqbal and spirit of the Unity”.
The event will be held at the Pakistan Education Academy on Nov.22 and Javed Jalil Khattak, consul general, will be the chief guest.
The other major programmes are food festival and meena bazaar from Nov.29-Dec.2 at the PAD premises, Pak-UAE solidarity walk on Nov.29 from the Pakistan Education Academy to PAD premises in Oud Metha, health awareness day on Nov.29 and Dec.1, solidarity desert fun drive on Dec.6, visit of community youth to old age home in Dubai on Dec.9 and a Kabaddi (traditional wrestling) match at Sonapur labour camp on Dec.13.
Tirmizi, vice president of PAD, said that as an official association registered to support Dubai’s bid for Expo 2020, “the association through the month-long events fully endorses the expo and we are confident that Dubai will win the bid.”
Ikram pointed that they have planned 40 stalls for the four-day food festival and meena bazaar, which will have food stalls as well as stands offering garments and traditional handicrafts from Pakistan.
