SHARJAH: The newly-appointed five-member election committee of Pakistan Social Centre Sharjah (PSCS) has announced the schedule for elections to choose a new body to run the social centre over the next two-year term. The elections will be held on Nov. 6 and only panels of individuals will be allowed to contest, rather than individuals, for the 11 PSCS posts.
This was announced by Shah Nawaz Bukhari, chairman of the election committee in the presence of other four members, including Abdul Waheed Paal, Syeed Sajjad Hussain Shah, Zareen Zada Khan, Ziaul Haq and Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal, former president of the Centre.
According to the officials, the PSCS elections will be held under the supervision of Ministry of Social Affairs, Sharjah, on Nov. 6.
“Earlier, the date was Nov. 1, but on the directives of the Ministry of Social Affairs, it has been shifted to Nov. 6 and will be held from 8am-5pm at the Centre,” Bukhari said.
He also announced the code of conduct for the elections. Only panels will be allowed to take part in the election process and each panel has to obtain the membership of 100 new members.
The registration fee for each new member will be Dhs250 for a year and Dhs500 for a 5-year term. The registration of new members will go on till Oct. 30 and a new list of all the members, including the existing 220 members, will be displayed at the Centre on Nov. 2.
The election committee will accept nomination papers till Oct. 25 along with the election fee of Dhs3,000 each, for the post of president and general secretary, while Dhs2000 each will be the fee for nine other posts. Last date for withdrawals is Oct. 27. There will be no refund.
“We are encouraging the community to come forward and take part in this process as this Centre is for them and it is their responsibility to take care of their own community. Any resident of Sharjah, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah is eligible to participate in the elections,” Bukhari added.
Bukhari said the elected body will be announced on Nov. 9 at a press conference, while the date of the oath-taking ceremony would be announced later.
