Pak Khyber Wing announces new panel

By Jamil Khan @ The Gulf Today-Sharjah, October 14, 2013

DUBAI: Pak Khyber Wing (PKW), a body under the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), has announced its new body of office-bearers with the aim of increasing the number of its members as well as extending the welfare activities for the Pukhtoon community residing in the Emirates.
The announcement was made by Haji Khyal Zaman Orakzai, chairman of the Pak Khyber Wing, while addressing a press conference at the PAD office.
The new office-bearers were also present on the occasion including president Shakoor Rehman Afridi, finance secretary, Syed Wazir Bangash and Zulfiqar Shah, press secretary.Image
“The PKW has completed its two years and is the only registered organisation of Pukhtoon from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan and so far has undertaken a number of welfare initiatives for the community,” Orakzai said.
The PKW, according to the officials, spent a huge amount on different social welfare initiatives for the community in Dubai besides contributing for the PAD multi-purpose hall and upgrading of a Pakistani school in Dubai.
Orakzai pointed that the philanthropists of the Pukhtoon community in Dubai also contribute annually to successfully run two orphanages in KPK.
“Parwarish is being providing education and hostel facilities to around 100 children in Swat for the past three years while Khyber Gloona (flowers of Khyber), another orphanage in Peshawar city, accommodates 45 students.
“These children were affected by the insurgency and floods in the past 4 years and the community philanthropists in Dubai are taking all necessary measures to provide them with decent education free of cost,” he added.
Before the setting up of PKW, a group of community philanthropists were working as Pukhtoon Welfare Organisation but it was not getting registered and the PAD set up a new wing to provide a legal shelter to the welfare organisation to benefit the community.
The PKW officials complained that they have been asking PAD to provide them office facility in its premises but in vain for the last two years.
“The PAD has around nine wings and most of them have been given offices but not the PKW which creates hindrances in our smooth operation to carry out welfare activities for the community,” he complained.
Shakoor Rehman Afridi, president, told that they have started membership and once they reach 200 members, they will hold new elections to choose the body for the next two years.
