‘PPP work on grassroots to bring people on platform’

DUBAI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been revamping its infrastructure in the country to reach out to the masses, the real power behind the party.
This was stated by Mahwish Sheikh, Secretary of Information for the PPP Punjab while talking to the media at an Iftar-dinner in Dubai on Tuesday. She had a visit and held a get-together with the media that was also attended by Mian Munir Hans and other party local representatives.Image
She pointed that the last regime which PPP completed was a satisfactory period for the public, but it is a fact that the government has achieved some major milestones which were recognised on a global scale. “It was the first time that the PPP-led government set a good parliamentary example to complete its 5-year tenure and award further awards to the provinces while the Gwadar Port and Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline were the major projects which will benefit the country in the long-term,” she said.
She further stated that the PPP leaders in the country are working on the grassroots level once again to bring the masses to their platform. “We are expecting at the end of this year that  PPP Co-Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will lead the party along with his sisters and their presence in the country will bring a massive momentum not only in the party itself but also in the country’s political scenario,” she added.
To questions on the lingering issues of power shortages, the law and order situation, unemployment and others, Sheikh replied: “One should not forget that there were many issues that were the result of the 8-year tenure by Musharraf who did not take any initiative to overcome power shortages as well as his policies worsened the law and order situation all over the country,” she tried to justify.
She said that if the current PML-N led government did a good job, the people of Pakistan will select them in the next election. Otherwise they will face the same fate as they did. “Now the media has educated the people and only those will win who work for them,” she said.
Sheikh has recently visited China to take part in the international forum on Asian political parties and represented the PPP and will also represent her party in upcoming event to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan next month. She is an advocate in the high court and is working with prominent lawyers in Lahore in Pakistan.
