DUBAI: Pakistan Professionals Wing (PPW) has urged its members and the Pakistani expatriate community to show their generosity during the ongoing Holy Month by extending financial support to the body’s flagship education initiative.
Addressing its mid-term general body meeting, PPW Chairman Waqas Ellahi informed members that Dhs1.28 million had been spent during the first half of the current year in support of 254 students — including 28 university students. The money went to pay their tuition fees and helped the students continue their academic pursuits, he added.
“PPW members had first launched an initiative to financially support students within the community in 2006-07. A group of generous philanthropists had then come forward to help 72 students in Pakistani schools pay their outstanding fees amounting to Dhs318,000,” Ellahi said.
“Since then, over Dhs1.5 million has been spent to benefit over 400 students,” he added.
Ellahi also highlighted the other welfare activities, recent among which was financial support for 30 needy families to help resolve various financial issues.
“Moreover, over the years, eight Pakistani schools in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah were provided funding to pay for renovation work,” Ellahi revealed.
He urged members to use their contacts in raising as much funds as possible, as a large number of needy students were waiting for their support.
“In this Holy Month of Ramadan, every penny counts and we should donate as much as we can, besides motivating others to wholeheartedly take part in these activities in support of people in need,” he added.
The PPW — one of the many bodies of Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) — also conducts interactive sessions, where prominent speakers from both within Pakistan and the UAE deliver lectures on various topics for the benefit of the community.
