DUBAI: Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) has announced a charity initiative to support needy families in the community through distribution of food packages during Ramadan, with a financial assistance from the philanthropists’ contribution.
Talking to The Gulf Today, Rizwan Fancy, head of PAD Ad-hoc committee, told that they have issued a plea to community members to contribute generously toward the “Ramadan Food Package” initiative. “This year we are asking community members to donate their Dhs200 for one package which will include a number of edible items like wheat flour, rice, cooking oil, pulses, tea, dry milk, dates and others, enough for a family of six for three weeks,” he said.
The PAD, in collaboration with a number of community philanthropists, had taken the same initiative during last year’s Ramadan and distributed food packages among 450 families.
“Last year we had food packages worth Dhs170 consisting of 5kg wheat flour, 5kg rice, 2kg cooking oil, 1kg dates and so on. This year we are planning to arrange around 600 packages with increased quantity of food items and for this we have asked the community members to donate Dhs200 per package,” he added.
He further said that this year they are going to further systemise the procedure of donating Ramadan food packages.
“Soon we are going to finalise arrangements with retailers in Sharjah and Dubai where the deserving families who were given coupons will get the designated food items from their nearby supermarket,” Fancy added.
The welfare section of the PAD has registered a large number of deserving families who seek different types of financial assistance from PAD with the arrangements of contribution by philanthropists in the community.
The community members have been asked to contribute for the Ramadan initiative before July 7 as the distribution of food package will be started from the first week of Ramadan, which is expected to commence from July 9 or 10.

Free English Course
However, the PAD, in collaboration with the Skyline University College (SUC), has started a week-long free of cost English Education Course for the community.
The integrated course aims at developing students’ English language skills — reading, writing, listening and speaking.
PAD has asked the community members to avail of this opportunity and all those who are interested in this course will be registered online.
