PAD committee to hold polls on June 21

SHARJAH: A seven-member committee has taken charge of Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) on Tuesday to hold elections for the new body for the next two years.
The elections will be held on June 21 and around 3,000 members will cast their vote to elect a new panel.
The current PAD body led by Dr Ziaul Hassan, President, Zahid Tirmizi, Vice President and others have completed their two-year tenure and handed over the reins to the election committee in a simple ceremony held at the PAD office on Tuesday.
Talking to The Gulf Today, Dr Faisel Ikram, General Secretary said that they had taken charge of the PAD on June 10, 2011 and completed their 2-year tenure as per the constitution. “The last elections were held on June 10 and we took oath on June 17. In the last two years we left no stone  unturned to benefit the community through a series of events. We are confident in our performance and will take part in this year’s elections as well,” he said.
Shedding light on the schedule of the new election, he pointed that the election process will be started with the submission of nomination papers from June 13.
“The scrutiny of the papers will be held on June 15 while the final list of the candidates will be announced on June 17,” he added.
The elections will be held at the PAD premises on June 21 from 8.30pm to noon and will resume at 2.30 pm till 8pm. The oath taking ceremony will take place on June 28.
In a recent interview, the PAD officials had disclosed that during the last two years, the body had organised around 120 events for the community ranging from seminars on religious topics as well as health and other fields. The majority of the programmes attracted families of the Pakistani community residing in Dubai, Sharjah as well as Al Ain, Abu Dhabi and Ajman.
