Cooking contest to raise awareness on operations of UN World Food Programme

ImageDUBAI: Housewives and young women have been asked to join an upcoming cooking contest, which will be organised with an aim to raise awareness on the operations of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in the Middle East and throughout the world.
The winners will be awarded prizes. The event will also have attractions for the whole family to be part of the event to be held at the Times Square on Friday.
This was announced by Dr SM Tahir, CEO, Arabia Resources, at a press conference held in Dubai on Monday.
The press conference was also attended by Ashraf Hamouda, head of partnership and business development Mena, UN-WFP, Mourad Tarzi, head of Sales and Marketing United Food, UAE, Bryan David, marketing manager Times Square Centre and Robin Gomes, renowned chef.
“The purpose of the event ‘Aseel Live Ladies Cooking Contest’ is to bring housewives and young women to a platform where they showcase their talent of cooking and interact with women in a multicultural environment of of Dubai.
“This event will also highlight the operations of UN-WFP being carried out in more than 70 countries around the world,” Tahir said.
He pointed out that they have invited everyone to submit their recipes online.
“A panel of judges will shortlist 10 recipes and those who are selected will be invited to prepare their dishes in a live contest before a huge gathering of visitors.
The panel of judges will include Maria Soomro, wife of Tariq Iqbal Soomro, Pakistan Consul General in Dubai, Parveen Zafar, an expert and professional chef and Robin Gomes, Vice-President-Junior Development, the Emirates Culinary Guild.
Hamouda said that the UN-WFP has been set up in partnership with many local entities and that this particular family gathering will be a good place to educate people about the operations in over 70 countries.
“The UN-WFP is one of the world’s biggest humanitarian organisations relying 100 per cent on donors and reaches out everywhere to provide food to the affected,” he added.
