DUBAI: The mammoth rush of customers at shopping malls and markets in Dubai and Sharjah has begun on Saturday morning as many want to continue the shopping spree and benefit from the new Eid promotions.
Talking to The Gulf Today, a number of expats from Sharjah and Dubai expressed their satisfaction with a new range of promotions covering edible items, garments and other household items.
“It seems that Eid is for everyone as many slimming and salon boutiques are offering numerous packages to attract more and more customers. Today my wife received an SMS from a well-known slimming centre, which has dozens of branches spread throughout the UAE, offering special packages to get slim besides winning many attracting prizes,” said Shakeeb Anwar, a resident of Bur Dubai, on Saturday.
Emirates Cooperative Society (ECS), a chain of hypermarkets in all seven emirates, has also announced further price reduction on 120 items ranging from edible to household.
Farid Al Shamandy, general manager of the ECS said: “As part of Eid Mubarak campaign, the ECS has announced 50 per cent price reduction on 120 more items. These items will be available in different branches in Dubai such as Al Garhoud, Al Sufouh, Jafiliya, Twar 3, Mizhar 2, Hatta and a new branch Emirates Express till August 25,” he added.
He noted that the Eid holiday period scheme was devised by the ECS board of directors with an objective to help people on occasions like Eid and Ramadan.
“This idea will build confidence among shoppers and visitors of the ECS that they are availing valuable products at a low cost,” he said.

Al Ghurair Centre will also host thrilling shows like the dabke dance, children’s kadril dance, dragon dance and kids’ ballet dance, showcasing different cultures from around the globe.
There will also be special roaming performances featuring carnival Latino stilt walkers, clowns, jugglers and more in the food court area of the mall in addition to a special “hospitality tent” with traditional treats for all visitors.
Salem Al Ghurair, chief executive officer at Al Ghurair Centre, said: “We are proud of our association with Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE) as a strategic partner to support the fifth edition of ‘Eid in Dubai 2012.’ We recognise the DEPE’s constant efforts to boost Dubai’s retail and shopping mall industry and we are honoured to play an integral part in it.
