Partnership announced for game championship

THE  Dubai Challenge has officially opened its six-month long gaming season for the year with the signing of partnership between Magic Planet, the region’s popular family entertainment outlet, Index Conferences and Exhibitions and MTV Arabia. world-game-championship-logo

The championship is part of the Dubai World Game Expo 2009 to be held between Oct. 27 to Oct. 29 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre under the patronage of Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

In the next six months, from around the GCC countries, the best gamers will be finalised in the six categories and will go on to compete in a final showdown at the Dubai World Game Expo 2009, to win top prizes worth up to Dhs100,000.

The championship will start in Muscat (Oman) in April and will throughout the summer. The elimination rounds will take place at Magic Planet outlets in Bahrain City Centre, Sharjah City Centre, Ajman City Centre, Deira City Centre and the Mall of the Emirates.

The gamers from the GCC countries will face the challenges like Deal or No Deal, a contest that involves a huge amount of guess work; Sega Rally, a game to test the driving skills; and American High Striker, besides basketball and soccer simulations and a whole new line of games.

The signing ceremony was attended Samr Al Marzouqi, Channel Manager, MTV Arabia; Eng. Anas Al Madani, Vice President, Index Holding; and Silvio Liedtke, General Manager, Magic Planet in Dubai on Thursday.

Silvio Liedtke, General Manager, Magic Planet, said, “We aim to make this competition a favourite annual event and a world class show for gamers and spectators. This partnership gives us a great platform and combines our strengths so we can deliver the best arcade contest in the world in terms of player skills and the prizes up for grabs. The popularity of gaming events is soaring and we expect this to be a fantastic event.”

Engr. Anas Al Madani, Vice President, Index Conferences and Exhibitions, said that their achievements last year were beyond expectations. He said that was their maiden event, we had very ambitious objectives, especially when it came to gathering thousands of gamers.

“This momentous first year gave us vital information about the gaming industry in this part of the world. The Middle East is now the most potent gaming market globally. It is clear we have emerged from being conservative to competitive,” he added.

Samr Al Marzouqi, Channel Manager, MTV Arabia, said that MTV Arabia’s partnership with World Game Championship 2009 is timely as MTV Arabia prepares new shows catering to the Arab gamers in the region. “We have acknowledged the fact that the young Arab viewers are maturing in tastes, choices and affiliations. And one common entertainment today is gaming. We have to give what our viewing public want and that will be games for gamers,” he said.
