Drive To Collect Donations

EP’s Gaza gesture wins accolades

THE ongoing campaign, Rescue Gaza initiated by Emirates Post has been appreciated by all and the ratio of donations pouring from public is enormous.

The organisers have collected a huge amount of donations besides relief goods and soon all these will be delivered to people of Gaza through Red Crescent.

Mirna El Zahed Wattar, co-ordinator of Rescue Gaza from EMP (Emirates Marketing & Promotions) told The Gulf Today at her office located at Al Karama on Monday.

The Emirates Post had launched this campaign two weeks ago and will continue till Feb. 28 to collect donations in cash and all kind of relief goods from the public. In this regard, a special camp have been established at outside Deira Main Post Office, Dubai where officials collecting donations besides the introducing of coupon worth Dhs 5 and 10.

Mirna had said that earlier they had set cash donation target as one million dirhams but the response from the public showing that it will be exceeded.

“I personally went door-to-door to collect the donations for the people of Gaza and the reaction from the people was amazing,” she said.

She also mentioned that the residents of Dubai and surroundings had donated a huge quantity of every type of relief goods including medicines, food items, blankets, furniture, toys and others.

“Yesterday we had gathered a massive quantity of relief goods measuring two huge truck loaded and all such relief goods will be sent Gaza through Red Crescent,” she said.

She further said that the special coupons worth Dhs 5 and 10 issued by Emirates Post to collect cash donations are also receiving extraordinary response from everywhere. “The Emirates Post has put these coupons in its all posts offices throughout the country for the easy access of people who desired to participate in this campaign through their donations. The schoolchildren belong to different academic institutes had also showed great interest in the coupons,” she added.

To a question, Mirna said that the paintings made by the children on the first day of the drive initiated, are in the process of selection. “In the current week, we will finalise some selected paintings of young artists for various postage stamps to be issued by Emirates Post soon,” she stated.

However, a number of professional artists from different countries had also showed their skills on the first day of the “Rescue Gaza” campaign.

“All 18 paintings made by renowned artists from local and foreigner artists will be auctioned on March 8 and the proceeds will go for the rehabilitation of people of Gaza. Besides this, some of the paintings will also be selected for postage stamps,” she said.

Shedding light on the drive within the Emirates Post and its subsidy companies, Mirna said that the employees of all Emirates Posts firm have also taking part in the “Rescue Gaza” drive and the response was extraordinary.

She further added that in the last week of current month, they will wrap up the drive and all cash donations in the form of check and relief goods will be handed over to Red Crescent to deliver the affected people of Gaza.
