Saddar Town employees working without salaries

OVER 3000 employees of Saddar Town has yet to issue their December salaries as what the high-ups justifying that the computerization and updating the revised salaries taking time which will be over in the next couple of days, the Daily Times learnt on Saturday.

The sources within the town administration alleged that the recent upgrading of over 250 posts and adjusting this move was one of the major reason causing delay in the salaries of rest of the employees as so far the salary slips have also not been issued.

The town administration had adopted a resolution in town council in October 2008 to upgrading around 267 posts and promoted these officials from Grade-5 into Grade 16 and 17 posts ignoring the senior officials who had spend decades in lower grades but ignored due to the no political affiliation, sources further added.

The official had been tried to highlight the issue given threats of dire consequences which had created panic among the senior employees have to work under the junior illegally promoted officials.

“Almost all employees have been asked that they will not be given pay slips for next three months to avoid filing case in court against the officials,” the sources further quoted.

However, the Town Municipal Officer Saddar, Mukhtar Hussain told Daily Times that the promotions were took place according to the SLGO 2001 (Sindh Local Government Ordinance) which have given the provision to do so.

“After the bifurcation of defunct KMC’s District South into three towns in 2001, the employees deputed in Saddar Town were split in haphazard manner and creating problems in different departments,” he said.

To a question, he said that the salaries of all 3100 employees of Saddar Town being updating after the increment applied on the salaries of December and will be issued in the next 2-3 days.

Responding another query, he said that the Saddar Town Administration in the last over three years had increased its sources of revenue from Rs10 million annually to Rs150 million. “We had systemized all departments and expand the net of taxes besides increasing the fee on already levy taxes,” he said.
